For ages 12-17, classes are structured as a training program. Two classes per week offer a balance of technical and tactical drills. Fencers learn about the three different weapon categories--foil, epee, and sabre--and train in one or more weapons based on coaches' recommendations.
New fencers work with greater emphasis on technique for six months. During that time, they fence in a group composed entirely of novice fencers. After six months, fencers who choose to continue in the program join our tactical foil group and/or begin learning epee or sabre. Practices focus on bouting tactics, and often include fencing sessions using electric scoring equipment. Fencers in this group are required to buy an electric foil, lame (electric scoring jacket), and a body cord.
Teen classes practice schedule Saturdays 10:00 to 1:130 a.m., foil/sabre Saturdays 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., epee Mondays 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., all weapons
